Safe Work Australia states that PCBUs must ensure people at the workplace are not exposed to airborne contaminants above the relevant workplace exposure standard. FumeFree – Welding Fume Extraction System
On-gun welding fume extraction captures fumes directly at the torch, removing contaminants close to the point where they are generated. This method suits MIG welding where consistent fume capture matters. FumeFree calls this method “on-gun” The global FumeFree sites uses “source-capture torch” “source-capture torch” for the same method.
Local exhaust ventilation, often shortened to LEV, is a key term in the Australian welding fume safety landscape. FumeFree’s welding fume extraction systems support source-based fume control by drawing fumes away from the breathing zone and reducing the amount of welding fume circulating through the workplace.
A welding fume extractor is a system designed to capture fumes generated during welding. It helps reduce airborne contaminants and improve air quality in the welding area.
Safe Work Australia sets an exposure for welding fume. The limits is 1mg/m3 over an eight-hour day, five days a week. This limit is called the WES today. It becomes the WEL on December 2026. Workers must not be exposed above this limit.
